In her 2025 session, Jasmine Ng — who chairs the board of Christians in Web3 (CW3) — made a case that's easy to dismiss and hard to forget: web3 and the metaverse are a culture still being formed. The Church was late to web2. We don't have to be late again.
Two cultures, one frontier
Web3's prevailing culture is what insiders call degen — degenerate: greed, "rug pulls," sudden wealth, and a loneliness that all the parties never quite fill. Against that, CW3 has championed a regen — regenerative — alternative since 2023: generosity, integrity, and genuine relationship. Tellingly, even the broader space has started calling for the same thing.
What mission looks like here
- Show up in person at the digital frontier. CW3 organizes side events at major web3 conferences — wherever a member happens to live — gathering believers to pray over the event and the host city. Those gatherings have led to salvations.
- Disciple people who never stop moving. Web3 people travel constantly, so discipleship is hybrid by necessity: plug new believers into a local church, and keep them in digital community — weekly prayer, monthly connects.
- Drop the digital/physical divide. To a digital native there's no distinction. As Jasmine puts it, you're not a "digital" missionary or an "IRL" missionary — you're just a missionary.
Why it matters now
The values of these spaces are being set in this decade. If generous, Christ-shaped people are present "at the tip of the spear," a culture defined by greed and isolation can be met with one defined by grace. As she asks: what could be darker than the dark web — and who will bring light there?
